Is it ok to text a teacher at night?

I think the "Golden Rule" can apply here. Would you want to get texts at night about your job? If the teacher gave out his or her text number, they probably don't mind an evening text in rare cases. But I would keep the following points in mind:

  1. Is this an emergency? Likely it is not so keep your texting to "business hours." Teachers are busy teaching during the day but right after school is a good time to text.
  2. Before you run into this problem, ask the teacher to set up "homework buddies" or ask parents to opt into a texting group. That way you can quickly share information with other parents and ask questions like are permission slips due tomorrow? without having to bother the teacher.
  3. If you do end up texting--be polite, gracious and brief.

Did you know I love to work directly with teachers, families, administrators, librarians, dads, students, abuelas, community members, program directors, teachers-in-training and literally everyone else? Talk to me.
